About Miss Contrary
My name is Mary, and I blame my love for technology on my father who brought home the first clunky IMB laptop in the mid 80's. So much has changed since I had to boot up DOS and the invention of the internet. I always wanted to grow up to be a person to help push things forward and make the web a more beautiful place.
First off, I am a fine artists. All those after school art classes paid off. I was intent on learning everything I could about Design and Art when I ran off to live in NYC at 18. And my desire to both create and learn something new everyday has never wavered.
In NYC I learned from the best. I attended classes at both Pratt and the New School but wandered aimlessly in philosophy and drawing classes until the internet hit me like a ton of bricks. I adored what developers were attempting, and consumed every book on code and programming I could. BTW I did finnish at FIT in Graphic Design and Media
Freelancing has always given me room to work on my Art. I had a few gallery showings of my installations and paintings in NYC...but the itch to travel got me in the end. After school I moved to New Orleans. Beautiful architecture and closely knit community brought me closer to an organic self made lifestyle. I learned to live my passions everyday and produce an independent, hand made life outside of expectations and the status quo.

I am passionate about the work I do and am really one of those nerds who can code all night or paint until the early morning hours. My other interests include sustainable living, sewing, lots of book consumption, and keeping all sorts of animals warm and well fed.
Before Katrina hit NOLA I was back traveling spending a stint in Austin Texas as a resident artist at the Enchanted Forest, a well known art venue and community hub. It was a wonderful experience, but Santa Fe was calling. After acquiring a dream RV I zigzagged all over the west coast for a few months and finally settled into life in my adobe casita in Santa Fe. You can read all about my adventures in my vintage Airstream Motorhome in my blog
I am truly in love with the city of Santa Fe Finally a city that seems to be "doin' it right" when it comes to promoting the arts. There are so many talented artists and unique businesses that thrive here...& maybe I can help you take it to the next level.
